On the vast Loess Plateau, in the boundless Gobi Desert, and across snow-covered plains, the towering drilling rigs piercing tens of thousands of meters into the earth embody the wisdom and sweat of Fengbao’s team. Over the past two years, Fengbao Pipe Industry’s well-following service team has provided support for over 500 wells, safeguarding the smooth deployment of the company’s finished casing pipes into wells. Recently, we interviewed well-following team member Mr. Liu, who shared his unique experiences working in the rugged northwest regions of China, revealing the bittersweet challenges of this mission.

As one of the first members of the well-following team, Mr. Liu began his fieldwork in August 2022. The complex and harsh operating environment immediately presented a daunting challenge. Rain-soaked mountainous roads turned treacherous, with vehicles struggling to navigate and brakes repeatedly failing during descents, underscoring the critical importance of safety as the foundation for all operations. Fully aware of his responsibilities, he prioritized ensuring the safe and efficient use of oilfield pipes.

During technical guidance, Mr. Liu leveraged his deep understanding of casing and tubing products to tackle issues one by one. He personally demonstrated standard operating procedures while collaborating closely with drilling crews to resolve on-site problems, laying a solid groundwork for safe pipe usage.

“Through communication, I learned to empathize with their exhaustion from high-intensity work and how it affects their receptiveness to new knowledge. By communicating patiently and meticulously, I gradually earned their trust and recognition, enabling smooth progress in technical guidance,” Mr. Liu explained. His ability to view challenges from others’ perspectives is the key to his consistent success in completing tasks.

The well-following experience deeply instilled in him the power of teamwork. From initially learning workflows under his mentor’s guidance—meticulously recording Oil Casing Pipe Deployment Reports—to later coordinating with drilling teams and casing crews, he realized that every step relies on team support. Maintaining close contact with colleagues back at the plant, he promptly sought solutions to complex issues, maximizing the technical support from the branch office to ensure timely and effective resolutions to frontline challenges.

“My confidence in our products’ quality is the source of my determination in well-following services,” he stated. Through prolonged field practice, he developed absolute faith in Fengbao’s casing and tubing quality. Yet, he also recognized the profound impact of on-site operations on final pipe performance. Even the highest-quality products could fail if damaged during lifting, installation, or connection due to improper handling. Thus, he remained vigilant, strictly monitoring every node that might affect pipe quality. Upon discovering issues like seal surface damage or thread defects, he insisted on immediate replacements. His unwavering commitment to quality not only upholds the company’s reputation but also ensures the safe and stable operation of oil extraction projects.

Through Mr. Liu’s journey, we witness the transformation of a novice into a skilled technician capable of independently resolving technical issues and coordinating multifaceted relationships. His growth reflects both the struggles and joys of professional development.

Regarding future plans, he said, “Creating value for customers is our goal; their needs are our direction. I will compile the issues discovered and solutions accumulated during my frontline work to share with colleagues. Through team efforts, we will enhance Fengbao oil well pipes’ recognition and earn greater customer trust with product quality and service.” He emphasized that well-following services are invaluable assets in his career, marking a solid step forward in his growth journey. He will forever cherish this experience as a new starting point for continuous advancement.
