The top 50 global steel companies in production in 2020 released, China Baowu ranks first with 115 million tons

On June 3, the World Steel Association released “World Steel Statistics 2021”. Data show that in 2020, global crude steel production will be 1.878 billion tons, and apparent steel consumption will be 1.772 billion tons.

Edwin Bassoon, Director General of the World Steel Association, mentioned in the preface that the steel industry is not only the core of global economic development, but also the core of sustainable development of modern society. Although affected by the pandemic of the new crown epidemic, due to the different extent of the impact of different regions, steel demand will only shrink slightly by the end of 2020, which is undoubtedly lucky for the global steel industry.China’s steel consumption is constantly expanding, while consumption in other parts of the world is constantly shrinking. Thanks to the steady advancement of new crown vaccination in various countries and the changes in social behaviors of the whole society, we expect steel demand to return to normal in 2021.

Bassoon said that we believe that the new crown epidemic has accelerated the development of some key megatrends, leading to changes in steel demand. However, with the rapid development of global industry’s digitalization and automation transformation, infrastructure construction, urbanization evolution and energy transformation, the steel industry should seize the opportunities brought about by industrial transformation.

World Steel announced the production rankings of major steel companies in 2020. China Baowu ranked first in the world with 115 million tons. ArcelorMittal, Hegang Group, Shagang Group, and Nippon Steel Co., Ltd. ranked 7846 respectively. Ten thousand tons, 43.76 million tons, 41.59 million tons, 41.58 million tons ranked second, third, fourth and fifth.

There are 13 private steel companies in the top 50 in China, namely: Shagang 41.59 million tons, Jianlong 36.47 million tons, Delong 28.26 million tons, Fangda 19.6 million tons, Jingye 16.3 million tons, Rizhao 14.4 million tons, Xinhua Union 14.18 million tons, Zhongtian 12.76 million tons, Shenglong Metallurgy 12.06 million tons, Nangang Group 11.58 million tons, Hebei Donghai Special Steel Group 10.88 million tons, Qingshan Holdings 10.8 million tons, and Jinxi Group 8.01 million tons.
